Round Rock Express Finalize Season Roster

facebooktwitterreddit

This week the Round Rock Express, the Rangers Triple-A affiliate has finalized their roster for the 2011 season. It should look familiar to Rangers fans as many players we have seen in the big club have found their way onto the roster.

The most notable is Chris Davis who competed for a role on the Rangers 25 man roster but fell short to Mitch Moreland for the 1st base position. Michael Kirkman who pitched in relief for the Rangers last season will be on the starting rotation along with the Rangers number two prospect Tanner Scheppers (who hasn’t made an appearance at the big league level.

Other former Rangers notables include Catcher Taylor Teagarden and infielder Esteban German, and my favorite non-roster invitee from this spring Doug Deeds will be an outfielder for the club.

The team has also set it’s starting rotation:

Tanner Scheppers
Michael Kirkman
Eric Hurley
Brett Tomko
Zach Jackson

The week ahead is busy for the Express they play a 2 game series against the Double-A Team Frisco RoughRiders in Frisco on Sunday and then back in Round Rock on Tuesday, and the team’s home opener is on Thursday against Chicago Cubs affiliate the Iowa Cubs.

I will be in attendance Tuesday at the Dell Diamond and I assume we will see Eric Hurley pitch, but I’m not totally certain. I will recap the game and hopefully have some pictures for you on Wednesday. Tickets for that game and the opener on Thursday are still available through the teams website here.
