Today we take a look at the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express. The Express are currently 24-15, and are division leaders in the Pacific Coast League – American South Division. The current roster features guys who have played with the Rangers recently, in Michael Kirkman, Taylor Teagarden, and Pedro Strop.
They also feature a couple of outstanding prospects that we could see in the bigs as early as this season. Tanner Scheppers has had some trouble this season with stints on the disabled list, and is currently on the 7-day DL. This season isn’t a good picture of his talent only having gone two innings with three runs allowed on four hits, rest assured once healthy we will be talking about him again. The biggest surprise of course has been Neil Ramirez; we profiled him earlier in the season here. Neil has not stopped performing; currently his record sits at 3 and 1. His ERA is an impressive 3.28 has pitched 35.2 innings and has 40 strikeouts and only 15 walks.
Here are Ramirez’s stats for Round Rock this season -
As a team Round Rock has an average of .286 and 44 home runs on the season. The Express certainly aren’t the league leaders in any of these categories, but they have been consistent in their hitting. Bobby Jones has done an extraordinary job running this team, and the Rangers are lucky to have him.
Up next for the Express, they have a 12 game home-stand 05-19 through 05-30 without a day off. Four games against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, four against the Reno Aces and four against the Iowa Cubs. This home stand also features a holiday day game May 30th on Memorial Day at 12:05pm against Iowa.
Tomorrow night is especially exciting for the Express as the rehabbing Scott Feldman will get the start. If you have a chance to make it out to the Dell Diamond, do it. It’s an amazing atmosphere with a great baseball savvy crowd.
