Earlier I put up a post about reports and/or rumors both surfacing about Feldman being placed on waivers or being activated. It seems as though we have an answer.
According to Richard Durnett at ESPN.com, Scott Feldman is indeed being activated today. He is currently set to appear in uniform with the bullpen this evening at the game at Safeco Field where the Texas Rangers will aim to get their eighth straight win against the Seattle Mariners.
Apparently, the Rangers did place Feldman on outright waivers and was not claimed. He rejected the assignment to go the Minor Leagues (AAA Round Rock) and since $10+ million is a hefty amount to pay to release Feldman, the Rangers decided to bring him into the bullpen. He’ll likely be used as a spot starter and a long reliever.
Prior to his injury last year, Feldman went 7-11 with a 5.48 ERA in 29 games, 22 of which were starts. In 2009, he went 17-8 posting a 4.08 ERA over 34 games, 31 of which were starts. Obviously, he had much better numbers in 2009 and this is the year that the Rangers will hope and pray that he gets back to.
