The Rangers got back in the win column tonight with an 8-0 drubbing of the Rays. Ian Kinsler led off the game with a homerun and that was all C.J. Wilson really needed. But the Rangers weren’t done scoring yet. David Murphy led off the second inning with a shot that barely cleared the right-field fence. Murphy went 4 for 4 and knocked in four runs on the night. Murphy has filled in brilliantly for the injured Nelson Cruz, helping the Rangers stay atop the A.L. West.
Wilson twirled a five hitter for his first career shutout. The win was Wilson’s fifteenth of the season, matching last season’s career high total. C.J. had to leave his last start early after taking a comebacker off the index finger of his pitching hand. The lefty said he had experienced some numbness in the finger, but showed no ill effects tonight. Derek Holland goes against David Price in tomorrow’s 12:10 CDT finale. The Rangers will then head home for a six game homestand against the Oakland Athletics and the Cleveland Indians.
