Yes the Texas Rangers are officially heading to the playoffs. Last night’s win over the Mariners coupled with a loss by the Angels gave the Rangers their second straight A.L. West title. The highlight of the 5-3 win over Seatlle was Craig Gentry‘s first career homerun. It was an inside-the-parker that split the gap between Mike Carp and Trayvon Robinson. Click here to see the video.
With the division crown in hand the real work is only beginning. In the final five games of the regular season the Rangers will be jockeying for position and the very important home field advantage. Currently the Rangers and the Detroit Tigers have identical 91-66 records. The Tigers own the tie-breaker so the Rangers need to gain a game to secure the number two seed behind the Yankees. The Rangers are 3-6 against the Tigers this season, including a 2-4 record in Detroit.
Alexi Ogando takes the mound tonight against Seattle’s Felix Hernandez. King Felix has lost all three of his starts against the Rangers this season. The Rangers will be without reliever Mark Lowe for 2 to 4 weeks. Lowe suffered a hamstring strain during a workout earlier in the week.
