Festivus is a holiday made famous by the sitcom Seinfeld. One of the traditions of Festivus is, of course, the Airing of the Grievances.
This afternoon, in Venezuela, Texas Rangers catcher Yorvit Torrealba got started with his holiday celebration a little early. Apparently the umpire made a call that Torrealba didn’t agree with and, well..
Now, Festivus tradition calls for a verbal airing of grievances, but clearly Torrealba wanted to get his message across.
I don’t mean to make light of a bad situation. Obviously, there is no place in baseball for this kind of action. Torrealba, I would guess, is looking at a ban from the Venezuelan League. I would assume he would be suspended for the remained of the season, at the very least. A lifetime ban from the league is probably up for debate as well.
Apart from showing his temper here, Torrealba has done nothing that will affect his status with the Rangers.
