Wow, what an intense couple of days for baseball. Manny Ramirez signs with the A’s, Ryan Braun won his appeal and will not serve his 50 game suspension, and Josh Hamilton gave us a real piece of his mind.
The latter is obviously what is on my mind at the moment, and there it will be for some time.
“The Rangers have done a lot for me, but I’ve got a question for ya’ll: Have I done a lot for the Rangers? I think I’ve given them everything I’ve had,” said Hamilton, who will be a free agent at the end of the season. “I don’t think anybody can say I haven’t. When it comes down to it, people don’t understand, fans don’t understand, this is a business, this is an entertainment business.
“I love Texas. I love my fans. I love fans of the Rangers. I love the organization. I love my teammates. I love everything about it. But I’m not going to sit here and say that I owe the Rangers. I don’t feel like I owe the Rangers.”
Oh Josh how wrong you are. In my opinion, Josh Hamilton owes the Rangers everything. Jon Daniels and the rest of the front office took a chance on a rookie with a single decent year under his belt in Cincinatti, trading away a monster pitching prospect in the process. A rookie with almost 5 years of lost baseball due to a drug problem that has been a major derailment in his life.
Yes, we have seen Josh hit mammoth home runs, end a season with a .359 batting average, steal bases, and take away base hits. Though, it is the darker side of what we have seen that has caused so many problems. The relapse in 2009, however many trips to the disabled list, his blaming of third base coach Dave Anderson after he broke his arm, his most recent relapse, and now the complete disregard for the organization that has put whatever he has wanted in his hands. Yes Josh, this is a business, and you are running it into the ground.
Well, since I am just a fan, and according to Josh Hamilton, there is no way I can understand anything about this game. I have lost alot of respect for this man. Until next time, Go Rangers.
