The first of the Texas Rangers games of 2012 is in the books. The March 1 inter squad game resulted in predictably a Rangers win. While this game was nothing but a match between the A squad and the B squad that will be utilized in Split Squad games this Spring Training, it was a game none the less. Welcome back big league baseball, we have missed you.
Rangers fans please keep your excitement one way or another to a limit over Spring Training games. The devoted masses of Bill James should probably review last year’s numbers during this time. Since most every spring training game you will see players running on the warning track, I am not aware of the sabermetrics stat that will allow that to be factored into a pitchers performance. As I have stated before Spring Training is about hope, it is about the fundamentals of the game, it is about player development, and more than anything it is about seeing who has developed or regressed the most since the previous year.
