On the eve of the first Spring Training game of the year in the 40th anniversary year of the Texas Rangers I have decided to put out my list of the top 5 starting pitchers in the history of the Rangers. Much like the list I did on hitters a couple of weeks ago the criteria for this list are infinite and had to be drawn down to a group of statistics that is manageable. I have chosen the following criteria for inclusion on the list; minimum of 2 full seasons pitching for the Rangers, ERA, WHIP, BB/9 and SO/9 ratio.
Pitching for the Rangers in 2012 will be a lot different than in 1972. Ranger Ballpark in Arlington is a huge hitter friendly park as compared to the old Arlington Stadium that was pitcher friendly. Other changes have come and gone like steroid use, intense training and severe analytic studies of pitchers have all changed the way that pitchers have been used and viewed.

I am married to a wonderful woman who relunctantly tolerates baseball. I have three great kids who chase down autographs and foul balls with the best of them. I have been a fan of baseball my entire life, literally at a Big Red Machine game while in utero. I love my Texas Rangers since I can remember, I remember Mitch Williams being a Texas Ranger okay? While I am away from Texas I have the pleasure of watching the Rangers prospects playing with the Hickory Crawdads and Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
The Texas Rangers Farm System, past and present is a real treat for me and will be happy to answer any prospect question you may have.
