AAA Round Rock Express will feature Martin Perez on the hill. He is 1-1 for the season after 3 starts. Perez has been getting to the 5.2 or 6 innings pitched in all three of his starts. He has a nice 1:2 ratio going for walks to strikeouts. If he can continue this then maybe he has improved on his control. The 5 earned runs that are scored against him over three starts is a very good trend. With some extra run support he may look even better. In Friday’s match the Express edged out Omaha 2-1, which improved the Express’ record to 6-10. Today’s game will be game 17 on the season.
AA Frisco was baffled on Friday night by the Corpus Christi Hooks pitching losing 6-0. The loss drops the RoughRiders to a 9-5 record. The ball will be given to LHP Tim Murphy to try to erase the pain from that loss. In his previous two starts, both against Arkansas, he has struggled. Murphy has pitched a combined 7.2 innings but has allowed 6 runs on 11 hits. The lefty’s pitching record is 0-1 and a high ERA 7.04. His numbers from his first two starts are almost identical, so a quality start is much needed from him. The match against Corpus Christi tonight will be game 15 of the year.
The current series between the Advanced A Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Carolina Mudcats is shaping up to be a very well matched series. Both of the games that have been played so far have come down to 9th inning heroics, including Friday night’s 7-5 come from behind win. With the win the Pelicans improve to 8-6. For game three of the four game series Wilmer Font will start for Myrtle Beach. While Font is still getting back into throwing form from his 2011 surgery he is being limited in his pitch count. His previous start he was allowed to go 3 innings during which he gave up no runs, on two hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. He will likewise be able limited in pitch count tonight. The game will be the 15th of the season.
A level Hickory Crawdads ran into a marathon game against Savannah that ended in a 5-2 win in the 13th inning. The win pushes the Crawdads to 10-5 for the year. The rotation for the Hickory Crawdads is undergoing some changes. Friday’s start was to be Santo Perez’s but it went to Will Lamb. The other starter that could have been used was Andrew Faulkner but he threw in relief Friday night, and recieved the blown save. Instead Hickory will be sending Luke Jackson back to the hill. Jackson was just had a start on the 16th of April against Kannapolis. He is 1-0 with a 1.84 ERA. The ‘Dads will be playing their 16th game of the year.
Good Luck everyone.
