Roster Updates

Today saw three players being added to the Rangers current 40 man roster for the 2013 season.

1) INF Leury Garcia was added after spending a very nice 2012 season in Frisco with the Roughriders organization. He currently has spent the winter in the Dominican Winter League. He is a utility middle infielder and can further develop into either a very nice utility option or trade piece, depending on what the Rangers plans hold for other infielders on the roster.

2) LHP Joe Ortiz was also added to the 40 man. He spent 2012 with the Frisco Roughriders & Round Rock Express organizations. He has also been spending time in Winter League play this off-season. He is a side arm thrower and will probably make a good long relief candidate at some point for an MLB team.

3) Jacob Brigham is back with the Rangers after being a part of the Soto trade in July. The Rangers sent pitcher Barret Loux and a PTBNL in exchange for getting Brigham back. Brigham stand to be a solid middle relief pitcher, provided he can continue to come back well from Tommy John surgery.

One name that was left off the list was 1B Chris McGuiness. He was named the MVP of the Arizona Fall League and is getting better at his natural position of first base defensively. By not including McGuiness on the roster, he is now eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. Basically, other teams will have a chance to get him if they think he can help them in some way. If he does stay in the Rangers organization, he has a chance to start in Round Rock.
