Today the Texas Rangers announced that A.J. Preller has been promoted to assistant GM. This move does not affect Thad Levine, Preller will work with Levine. Mike Daly was promoted to senior director of minor league operations. Jon Daniels was quoted saying “A.J. and Mike have been instrumental in this franchise’s success over the last several years, especially when it has come to scouting and bringing quality players into the organization.” (ESPN Dallas)

Preller was director of the international and armature scouting departments and is a guy that Jon Daniels relies very heavily on for scouting advice. He was instrumental in increasing the Rangers presence in the Latin American and Pacific Rim areas. Daly was the Director of International Scouting since late 2009 before his promotion today to senior director of minor league operations. His responsibilities included day-to-day scouting in the Latin American area. Daly will now report to Preller. These moves, while not something most fans will be extremely excited about, are very good moves because it will keep some great scouts and baseball minds with the Rangers for a while longer and hopefully will help to eventually bring a championship to the Rangers organization. Not the most exciting news, but hey, its news!
