Eric Nadel has been calling Texas Rangers games on the radio for a very long time. In fact he has been doing it for 35 years. And not just calling games, but calling games well. That is a bit of an understatement. Nadel engages his listeners and there are few who do it better in my opinion than Eric Nadel. He is well deserving of the 2014 Ford C. Frick award for broadcast excellence.

This is Nadel’s fourth time to be a finalist, will be honored at the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction weekend on July 26 of next year. If you have ever listened to a Rangers game on the radio you know how great he really is. He paints a picture of what is happening on the field like few I have ever listened to. He is the reason a whole lot of Rangers fans turn down their televisions and turn on their radio’s while watching Texas Rangers broadcasts, no offense to Steve and Tom.

I had the privilege to interview Eric Nadel on the Hague Sports Podcast once after the 2012 season ended, and I was never more nervous to do an interview. He was a Texas Rangers hall of famer by that point and a person that I listened to since I was a teenager on the radio. It was truly an honor, and I couldn’t be more happy for Nadel. You can hear the interview here.

So congratulations to the great Eric Nadel for this much deserved honor. I hope he is able to call Texas Rangers games for another twenty years, because I so enjoy listening to him on the radio while I drive all over this crazy state. It is well deserved, it is exciting, and it really couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy than Eric Nadel. MLB made a good choice today.
