In a move that surprised absolutly no one, the Texas Rangers have officially slated right hander Yu Darvish to be the opening day starter against the Phillies. So how did Darvish react? Was he extreemly excited? Is he nervous?

"“He doesn’t show much excitement ever, so when he shrugged his shoulders a little, I took that for excitement.” Washington said according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News."

Darvish, now the sixth opening day starter in the past six seasons (Matt Harrison, Colby Lewis, C.J. Wilson, Scott Feldman and Kevin Millwood) will look to lock that position down for a couple of seasons at least. This really comes as no surprise, since Yu Darvish is so obviously the Texas Rangers best pitcher, and that was before the injuries to Derek Holland and Matt Harrison. Darvish has a great chance, if healthy in my opinion, to be the American LEague Cy Young award winnier in 2014. Even if not the winner, he will be in the discussion.

Darvish looks to get the Texas Rangers off on the right foot at the start of the 2014 season, hopefully that will go better than spring training has so far for this club. If the Texas Rangers can avoid anymore injuries (Tanner Scheppers, Matt Harrison, Derek Holland, Alex Rios, Geovany Soto, Nick Tepesch) and make it through spring training, then this should be a very special year.
