Texas Rangers catching prospect Robinson Chirinos has had a good spring so far according to most that have been watching.

Robinson Chirinos is hitting .467/.529/.533 with 4 RBI so far this spring. He is a versatile player who mainly catches, but he can also play other infield positions. I wonder if Robinson Chirinos is setting himself up to be an effective member of the Texas Rangers bench going forward. There is always that one guy who stands out above the rest during spring training, that one guy that no one saw coming, and so far this season that guy is Robinson Chirinos for me. His defensive work as well as his work at the plate has turned some heads in the Texas Rangers front office as Jeff Wilson mentioned on twitter earlier today.

So is there a place on the big league club for a third catcher? Is there a possibility that J.P. Arencibia gets left off for Robinson Chirinos? I doubt the second one, but if nothing else, Chirinos has shown the Texas Rangers that he can be a valuable piece in the organization and maybe an attractive trade piece later down in the season, and if not that I think he has a good chance of making it on the big league club to start the season. We will just have to wait and see how the rest of camp goes for Robinson Chirinos, but so far he is the surprise guy in camp!
