Surprise, ArizJurickson Profar will get his first start at second base for the Texas Rangers today.  Profar started off the season sidelined due to shoulder tendinitis.  Early in spring training Profar was only able to work on his footwork, which slowly progressed to swinging a bat and eventually playing as the Rangers DH.

Just as Profar about to play second base last week, he was hit with another delay last week when he had 4 wisdom teeth removed.  That minor surgery caused him to miss another 4 days.   But, Profar will finally be able to play second base and will be able to test his shoulder in game action.  Washington stated last week that Profar has been progressing well with workouts, but he is unable to tell if he is game ready until he actually plays in a game.

The thinking behind that for Washington is Profar doesn’t get the awkward throws and positions with workouts as he will with game play.   Since Jurickson Profar will get about 2 weeks worth of play in, Washington feels like he’ll be ready by Opening day as long as there are no more setbacks.
