Chris Gimenez, who was on the Texas Rangers Opening day roster has cleared waivers.  He was a late addition to the Rangers during spring training and was kept on the 25-man roster instead of designating him for assignment.

He was designated for assignment back on April 1.  Now that he has cleared waivers he has been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock Express, near Austin, Texas.  Gimenez has 72 hours to decided if he’ll accept the assignment.

The Texas Rangers claimed him off waivers on March 28 from the Oakland Athletics.   Gimenez has played in the majors for the Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Rays.

He had a batting line of .265/.342/.353/.695 with 9 hits and 3 doubles over 26 games/39 plate appearances.  His spring numbers are much more impressive than is 5 years in the majors.  Over that time he has a batting line of .199/.292/.293.585 with 6 home runs and 30 RBI over 143 games/380 plate appearances.
