Arlington, Tex- Texas Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder spent the offseason doing an MMA style workout to prepare for the 2014 season and it appears it is paying off.  During yesterday’s game he made outstanding dive to grab a ground that was surely going to roll into to the outfield.  That stop helped keep the bases empty and also made for a good highlight.

Fielder has been struggling at the plate so far, he’s only batting .149 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.  He’s had some good hits, but teams such as the Houston Astros have been able to work the shift perfectly against him.  Second baseman Jose Altuve worked it perfectly during this past weekend series to rob Fielder of a few hits.

He has had a few bad plays at first base this season.  There was a play where he wasn’t covering the base and another where he misjudged a pop up in foul territory.   Hopefully those types of plays are over, considerng they happened during the first few games of the season.

Yesterday’s diving stop was a good sight to see.  He was able to dive, bounce back up, run to first and get the out.  Maybe that’s the little spark he needs to get his bat going, something has to.  From what I can tell he’s never started off this slow, my guess is he’ll soon break of it and still have the season everyone expects.
