Texas Rangers Game Preview April 15, 2014

The Texas Rangers lost a game that starter Colby Lewis kept them in, and it was a tough loss to take. But the good thing about baseball is after a loss, there is almost always a game the next day! Well today has arrived, and the Texas Rangers get another crack at the Seattle Mariners!

Robbie Ross (0-0, 1.74 ERA) vs. Blake Beavan (1-0, 2.08 ERA in the minors, first start of 2014 tonight)

Robbie Ross of the Texas Rangers has been hovering above most fans expectations in 2014 as a starter, including mine. His 1.74 ERA is very impressive. The Mariners hit the ball all over the ballpark last night, but I wouldn’t expect them to do that every time that they play here. I very much expect that Robbie Ross will control the Mariners lineup very well tonight, and I expect him to have 8 strikeouts or so and give up 2 runs or less. I now have high hopes for Robbie, and I think he has the best chance of the bubble guys to stay in the rotation when Matt Harrison and Derek Holland come back.

Former Texas Rangers prospect Blake Beavan is making his first start of 2014, and in the past he just has not been as good as the Mariners have hoped that he could be. Beavan is 3-3 with a 2.84 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance against the Rangers in his career according to texasrangers.com.  I expect the Texas Rangers to put a dent in that ERA tonight, as long as J.P. Arencibia stays out of the lineup. I expect the Texas native to be on a short leash tonight and I would think that we will see a lot of the Mariners bull pen tonight.
