Texas Rangers Minor League Standouts

The Texas Rangers have seen a lot of injuries so far in 2014. They have called up more players

than they have wanted to, I can assure you that. I like to take a weekly look at how things are going down on the farm, and I am going to change it up just a bit from what I have done in the past. I am going to highlight leaders instead of giving you a top five, and I am going to encompass the A guys as well instead of just AA and AAA. Hope you enjoy it!

ERA Leaders:

Round Rock:

Starting Pitcher Nick Tepesch (now with the Texas Rangers) – 1.58

Relief Pitcher Roman Mendez – 2.65

Frisco:

Starting Pitcher Luke Jackson – 3.19

Relief Pitchers Matt West (0.68) and Phil Klein (1.27)

Myrtle Beach:

Starting Pitcher Alex Gonzalez – 2.42

Relief Pitchers Alex Claudio (1.57), Jose Leclerc (1.72), Jason Knapp (1.80) and Will Lamb (1.80)

Home Run Leaders:

Round Rock:

Brad Snyder (10) and Jared Hoying (9)

Frisco:

Ryan Rua (7), Jake Smolinski (6) and Rougned Odor (now with the Rangers) (6)

Myrtle Beach:

Joey Gallo (18) – you read that right. This kid is going to be something special as he works his way up the system. He is on fire right now for the Pelicans!

Batting Average:

Round Rock:

Ryan Strausborger – .313

Frisco:

Odubel Herrera (.345) and Tomas Telis (.343)

Myrtle Beach:

Joey Gallo – .342

So those are your minor league leaders as of today. These are the guys that are making a difference in the Texas Rangers minor league system. What stat would you like to see in these articles that I am not including? I would enjoy hearing from you all out there. Let me know so I can improve these! Thanks for reading.

Maybe our MLB team to should take a few days off and we’ll use the MiLB guys, you know just to give the guys a break….

I thought that is what they were already doing….

Any idea who took over the ERA title among starting pitchers with Tepesch’s promotion?

yes Lee. it is Scott Baker with a 3.32 ERA. in 6 starts.

I’m trying not to get too hyped about Gallo because if I do he will flame out but; WOW! This kid is tearing the cover off the ball. Could he be a legit superstar in the making or what? I’ll be checking his strikeout numbers later this year. If he develops plate discipline he could be special.

I agree. He looks amazing so far, but he is only in A ball! I am with you, I am afraid to get too hyped about him!
