Derek Holland Activated from the DL

The Rangers announced that they have sent right handed pitcher Nick Tepesch down to Round Rock and activated Derek Holland from the disabled list this afternoon.

This move means almost nothing for Tepesch, who will come back up Monday when the September call ups happen, so it is not a move to freak out about, they just had to make room for Derek Holland, who will get his first start of the season on Monday in Kansas City.

It has been a long road for Derek Holland since that fateful January day when he tripped over his dog and needed knee surgery, but he should be able to get in roughly 5 starts here at the end of the season to get his feet back under him going into the off season. Tepesch is slated to start Tuesday.

The Rangers also have designated Mike Carp for assignment, so it looks like his time with the Rangers is over. My guess is that J.P. Arencibia will get the majority of the starts at first base with the September call ups taking up the rest of the slack. As mentioned above, Robbie Ross gets the start tonight. The Rangers are looking to finish strong in August and hopefully have a good September, going into the off season on a good note.
