The Texas Rangers suffered their third loss of Spring Training fallen 7-3 to the Angels.

Pitching

Derek Holland had a solid outing yesterday versus the Angels, going 4 innings with 3 hits and 1 earned run. Sam Dyson pitched a solid 5th inning, not allowing a hit, while Jake Diekman allowed one hit and no runs in the 6th. Anthony Ranaudo had other plans for the 7th inning. He gave up 5 earned runs, including a 3 run home run to Johnny Giovotella, who hit 4 home runs last year in 500+ plate appearances. Yohander Mendez was eventually needed to finish out the 7th inning and all of the 8th. He allowed 1 hit, and no runs. Holland recieved the loss, giving him an overall record of 2-1 in Spring Training.

Hitting

The bats were pretty quiet, however, with the Rangers squad only being able to muster up 6 hits on the day. It actually should have been 5, but a Nomar Mazara fly ball to centerfield was lost in the sun, but it was counted as a hit. Joey Gallo, who is now hitting .294 with 2 home runs in Spring Training, hit a solo shot in the 2nd inning. He also avoided striking out in three whole at bats, so this may be some progress. Maybe. We’ll see. As for the rest of the bats, there wasn’t much to see. Jurickson Profar struck out twice, and Hanser Alberto grounded into an inning ending double play with runners on first and third.

Injury Report

Shawn Tolleson is still working back from his lower back stiffness but should be good to go in the coming week.

Up Next

The Texas Rangers will take on the Cleveland Indians today at 3:05pm. Right hander, A.J. Griffin, who’s coming back from Tommy John surgery, will make his third start of the season.
