The Texas Rangers new lineup delivered a win Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles. Shin-Soo Choo did not need a rehab stint in the minors to be able to provide a spark with his hitting in the lead off spot.

The Texas Rangers hit a season high seven extra base hits (6 were doubles) and the impressive thing is that every hit came from a different player. They did only manage 5 runs in the win but that was due to a 3 for 16 outing when there were players in scoring position.

Obviously there is work that needs to be done and the Texas Rangers need to take advantage of those scoring opportunities. But the bats are there and both of the new offensive additions Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Beltran have already hit an HR a piece and seem to be fitting in well.

The focal point for the Texas Rangers continues to be the need for quality starts. As long as the starting pitchers are able to go more than 5 innings consistently into a game then they should keep the bullpen rested and ready to go.

Speaking of that bullpen, it is looking pretty deadly right now. Sam Dyson, Jake Diekman, Matt Bush, Tony Barnette, and now Jeremy Jeffress look to be a shut down group when they can maintain their rest. The Texas Rangers head into a series with the Houston Astros and if they were to sweep the Astros then they would have a 9.5 game lead by Monday.

The Astors will not be seeing Cole Hammels but Martin Perez will be facing Luke Keuchel tonight and then Lucas Harrell and Yu Darvish will start the next two games. Keuchel’s numbers are not good against the Texas Rangers and hopefully this will lead to a big win for the first game of the series to build momentum into trying to stretch that lead of games into as many as possible. Once that lead is stretched then the Texas Rangers will only have home field advantage to worry about going into the playoffs.

A sizeable lead on the Astros could lead to more rest for certain players so that they are fresh for those playoffs that the Texas Rangers are looking to do some damage in. Ultimately as a Texas Ranger fan, you have to be ecstatic about the product that is on the field for your entertainment and as long as the players play like they are supposed to then this is a pennant team.
