The Rangers thought they were only going to lose Adrian Beltre for a week or two, but that has not been the case. He is making progress, but this offense desperately needs his bat.

It’s been a rough road for Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre as he has yet to play a game this season. Originally he was supposed to return mid-April, but is still experiencing soreness in his right calf.

A return in April is not going to happen, but even May is looking bleak. No timetable has been announced for Beltre and the team continues to take it slow with 38-year-old slugger.

According to T.R. Sullivan, manager Jeff Banister had this to say about Beltre’s rehab progress. “It’s getting better but not where we expect it to be,” Banister said. “We’re still in the rehab mode. We tried to get the [swelling] and soreness out. We’re continuing to work on it.”

The Joey Gallo era has begun while Beltre watches from the sidelines. This season Gallo is hitting .232 with seven home runs and 16 RBI. Those seven bombs are tied for the most in the American League.

It’s been hard lately for the Rangers offense to do much of anything. Missing Beltre has hurt them significantly, but the production from Gallo has helped. Obviously the Rangers want Beltre back, but don’t want to push it.

“Ultimately we want Adrian on the field,” Banister said. “We are a much better ballclub with Adrian on the field. But it’s no different…anytime a player is injured for a length of time and not on the field, you better have prepared yourself for that. I think we prepared ourselves. When Adrian is better, that’s when he’ll be on the field.”
