The Texas Rangers win today’s game with a respectable 2-1 score. It appears that their momentum is not dead. After blowing a seven-run lead in last night’s loss and winning today 2-1, this must mean the momentum just wasn’t at the right place at the right time. Texas is currently in second place in the American League West standings and 12.5 games behind the first-place Astros.

A challenging night for the Texas Rangers, but definitely better than last night. In the second inning, Cleveland took a 1-0 lead. Texas finally responded in the fifth inning, making it 1-1. Things remained quiet until the top of the ninth when Texas took a 2-1 lead and they prevented Cleveland from attempting a come-from-behind win.

Tyson Ross took the mound hoping to shake off his nightmarish start against Toronto last week. He pitched 6.0 innings, allowing two hits, allowing one run, and striking out five batters. After allowing a solo homer in the second, he went on to retire the next 12 batters that stepped up to the plate. His performance is respectable, however he earned a no-decision. Regardless, he pitched a great game. In any case, he must keep it up.

Jose Leclerc relieved Ross in the seventh, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out two batters, thus improving from last night’s meltdown. Keone Kela then came along in the eight, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out one batter, earning the win and improving to 4-1 this season.

Matt Bush closed the game, allowing one hit, no runs, and striking no batters, earning his tenth save this season. Since his last blown save, Bush has added two successful saves, so looks like he’s picked himself off the ground. In any case, he needs to keep it up.

Offense finished 3-for-29, striking out 16 times. That’s nine straight games with eight more strikeouts for Texas. It’s got to end. Robinson Chirinos and Adrian Beltre are the only players in this game with a hit. Elvis Andrus’ seven-game hitting streak has snapped. Four players struck a total of three times. Joey Gallo struck out twice. Beltre hit his 450th homer and his now 31 hits away from reaching the 3,000 milestone. Texas’ batting average of .240 is the second worse in the league. However, they’re sixth in the league in homers with 114 and 27th in hits with 619.

Yu Darvish takes the mound tomorrow. He’s coming a fantastic start against the New York Yankees. If he can pitch the same way he did against New York, he’ll earn his seventh win and help put the Rangers back on the win column.
