Earlier this month Twins minor league 2B Yangervis Solarte was granted free agency. It wasn’t exactly big news, especially given that over 500 other minor league players hit the free agent market, but a number of sites took notice of Solarte’s availability.

They did so with good reason as his presence on the market is a little atypical. Or perhaps I should say his presence was a little atypical. Texas Rangers signed him to a minor league contract last week. November 30th to be exact.

What the Rangers got as a result was a talented player capable of playing a multitude of positions with 2B being his best and most natural spot on the diamond. (more…)

On November 2nd, over 500+ minor league players were granted free agency adding to the talent pool that already included many MiLB players who had already elected to travel the free agent path. While that was almost two weeks ago, coverage and analysis of the 22 Rangers that were a part of that group has been noticeably absent here on Nolan Writin’. I’m here to correct that particular oversight though it’s going to take me 2 articles to get through them all in my own way.

This is Part 2, for Part 1 (which was published two weeks ago) click here.

2B Travis Adair (24)

2011 Performance [A+]: 307 PA, 0.305/.363/.412, 20 XBH, 24 BB, 44 SO
2011 Performance [AA]: 135 PA, 0.238/.284/.333, 7 XBH, 8 BB, 19 SO

Not a lot to see here. Relatively ho-hum numbers, combined with the fact he was old for both levels last season, casts him into an organizational filler role.

The Surprise Saguaros finished up the 2011 Arizona Fall League by losing to the Salt River Rafters in the championship game this past Saturday. That fact, however, should not take away from the fantastic season the Saguaros turned in. They easily finished with the league’s best record (26-10) by winning games at a 0.722 clip.

Given that the Saguaros roster was built from Rays, Braves, Royals, Marlins and Rangers prospects, their success should have been anything but a Surprise. We are talking about 4 of the top 10 farm systems after all and the Miami Marlins, while not elite like the other four, are solidly in the middle of the pack. There was a ton of talent on their roster, but for tonight’s purposes we’re only concerned with how the Rangers prospects fared. (more…)
