This was the worst start I’ve seen from a Rangers starter in quite some time. Derek has been good recently, and seemed to be turning a corner professionally. I’ll give him a few more starts before rushing to judgment on him. (more…)

The Texas Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last night in Arlington. C.J. Wilson on the mound was outstanding, and the offense was pretty good as well.

The starting pitcher was the real gem of this game. C.J. Wilson, up to this point in the season hasn’t really shown himself. Last night Wilson went a full seven innings, allowing nine hits and only one run. The most impressive stat from C.J.’s game was the nine strikeouts and only one walk allowed. Wilson threw 116 pitches, and 74 were for strikes. Also it should be noted, the only run C.J. allowed came at the end of his outing in the seventh inning.

The Rangers offense was really working well and faced a less than stellar Ervin Santana. We saw a two hit night from Ian Kinsler and Adrian Beltre. Mitch Moreland drove in the two runs that broke up the 0-0 tie in the fourth inning, and had a solo home-run in the eighth. Kinsler had a double and a triple in the game. Elvis Andrus had an impressive three hit game and picked up an RBI. Adrian Beltre hit a 3-run jack in the game to centerfield, if you can check out the replay on the Beltre homer, make sure to watch the fan’s great catch on the hill.

The Texas Rangers won their third consecutive series this afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles, bringing their record to 8 – 1 for the season. Texas continues to hold the best record in all of Major League Baseball. This game was won with pitching, Derek Holland and the bullpen worked well and earned the W.

Holland:

Derek Holland appeared in his second game of the season and was excellent. “The Dutch Oven” went a full six innings allowing five hits and no runs on the game. Holland in total threw 110 pitches and was still able to touch 93mph late in the game. Derek had six strikeouts in the outing and only two walks.

Holland’s game was not without drama. He allowed a couple of singles in the 1st inning, to Derek Lee and Vladimir Guererro. Holland struck out Mark Reynolds to end the first and stay out of trouble. A similar result occurred in the third inning, Holland walked Lee and then Vladdy hit a double but did not score Lee. Reynolds then grounded out to end the inning with runners at second and third.
