Wednesday, the Texas Rangers recalled catcher Taylor Teagarden as well as right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko from AAA Round Rock.

Tomko almost got himself a bullpen spot after spring training but the spot ended up going to Mason Tobin. Tomko has been in Round Rock and is 0-2 with an earned run average of 6.35 in his two starts. He’s pitched 11.1 innings this season and has allowed nine runs, eight of which were earned, on 11 hits while striking out six hitters. (more…)

It was a long night in Arlington last night, the Texas Rangers got spanked at home by the LA Angels of Anaheim. Colby Lewis went five innings but had nowhere near the velocity we have seen from him in the past. His pitch location was off and got pulled from the game pretty quickly. Lewis allowed five hits and four runs. Mason Tobin came in to relieve Lewis and gave up three runs (two earned), in only a third of an inning. Tobin left the game with tightness in his elbow, this is the same elbow that he has had previous surgeries on. The Rule-5 pick is scheduled for an MRI on Wednesday.

Michael Kirkman, recently called up from AAA Round Rock, was pretty horrible as well. Kirkman who hasn’t really performed well at the minor league level, went 1.2 innings. The pitcher went 1.2 innings giving up six runs (five earned). Dave Bush pitched the last two innings and gave up two runs (one earned). (more…)

Panic in Detroit! Your Texas Rangers are on a two game losing streak. In 12 games, the Texas Rangers are now 9 and 3. A saying in baseball I really like is “Every team will lose 60 games and win 60 games; it’s what you do with the other 60 that makes or breaks you.” Before April I would have taken a 9-3 start to the season with no questions asked.

There isn’t a tremendous amount to recap in this game. Bullpen pitcher Dave Bush got the start on the game, and handed it off to Mason Tobin collectively going 5 innings and allowing no runs. Mark Lowe gave up two runs in the sixth inning, and Arthur Rhodes pitched a scoreless hitless inning. Darren Oliver pitched solid through the 8th inning but then gave up the walk-off home run to Brandon Inge to lose the game.

Offense Lacking:

For a second game in a row the Ranger’s couldn’t get the bats moving. RBI singles from Nelson Cruz and David Murphy providing the only runs in the game. That’s basically it for the offense, they need to get the bats moving.
