On an outstanding night for DFW sports C.J. Wilson showed up to the ballpark ready to work. Avoiding a Chicken Little scenario from the bullpen, Wilson put the team on his back and pitched a complete game. Over nine innings Wilson tied his career high 12 strikeouts and allowed only one walk. The lefty gave up six hits and two runs (only one earned). This is the performance you need from your ace, a complete game at a time the bullpen needed a break.

On the offense, the Rangers worked hard as well. They picked up two runs in the 1st after an RBI double from Adrian Beltre and an RBI single from David Murphy. Mitch Moreland and Chris Davis each had booming solo home-runs on the game and Ian Kinsler scored a run from third on a wild pitch in the eighth. For Davis this was his first home run and RBI of the season. In the two games he’s played against Seattle he’s shown good plate discipline, Davis really got a hold of both the home run and another ball that just went foul earlier in the game. (more…)

Stop me if you have heard this one… Going into the bottom of the eighth inning the Rangers had a 3-2 lead over Seattle. Rangers’ reliever Pedro Strop had two runners on, when former Ranger Justin Smoak hit an RBI single to tie the game. From there Ron Washington replaced Strop with Darren Oliver, who then allowed an RBI single to Jack Cust. This resulted in the winning run of the game.

To put it simply, without closer Neftali Feliz the bullpen is forced to handle these high pressure situations. Neftali is scheduled to pitch a rehab start in Frisco, and could be back with the Rangers as early as Friday.

The offense last night was serviceable; the three RBIs in the game for the Rangers came from Adrian Beltre, Michael Young, and pinch hitter Elvis Andrus. The team still left some dinner on the table only going two for seven with runners in scoring position. (more…)

A different team pitching sure didn’t keep the Rangers lineup from hitting homers last night. With a rookie on the mound for Seattle tonight, the Rangers may tear the Mariners up. Ian Kinsler had his first season stolen base and he may just be able to grab another one if gets on the bases tonight. On the other hand, it will be the first start for bullpen relief pitcher Alexi Ogando who is now in the starting rotation temporarily. Let’s take a look at the pitching matchups for tonight’s game after the jump. (more…)
