Last evening Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz were both in the line-up for the Frisco RoughRiders. We’ve covered the RoughRiders some this year. We’ll go through each of the rehabbing Rangers at bats.

Cruz batted 4th in the line-up and played right field and Hamilton was 3rd and the DH. Last night was the first of what should be four rehab games for Josh Hamilton.

Josh Hamilton in his rehab start in Frisco (Photo from the Extra Bases Blog on the RoughRiders website)

In Hamilton’s first at bat with one on and one out, he grounded out to move the runner over. Nelson Cruz followed up Hamilton’s grounder with a line-out to short.

The fireworks came in the bottom of the third. With two outs and 2nd Baseman Renny Osuna on base, Josh Hamilton crushed a homer to left field. This gave the RoughRiders the lead 2 to 1. In the following at bat Nelson Cruz flew out.

Josh came back up in the bottom of the fifth with two outs. He hit a surprising infield single to shortstop; the SS had a late throw to first on the play. Nellie came up with Hamilton on and two outs, and hit a high fly out to left field. (more…)

The Rangers have definitely been plagued with some injuries early on to some of their best players such as Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz. However, the good news is that they are both nearing a return soon. In fact, one of them has already started his rehab assignment in Double-A Frisco. Here is an update on the current injuries within the Texas Rangers Major League organization.

Josh Hamilton, who fractured his right humerus bone sliding into home plate and got tagged out after his third base coach told him to go for it, is taking batting practice and is with the team in Chicago. He took his first batting practice last Friday and is participating in drills. The club physician should be evaluating the outfielder sometime tomorrow back in Arlington to determine what his next step will be. If all is well, he should begin a rehab stint before we know it. (more…)

This week I had an opportunity to ask some questions of Aaron Goldsmith who does the play-by-play for the Frisco RoughRiders, here’s what he had to say.

Aaron Goldsmith "Voice of the Frisco RoughRiders"

Rangers prospect Jurickson Profar has received a large amount of publicity recently and is constantly rumored to be a player other teams are trying to acquire in trades, Do you think we will see Profar in Frisco this season?

Selfishly I wish we would, but I really don’t see that happening. I think if he ended the season in High-A Myrtle Beach that alone would be very impressive. He’s only 18-years-old and, like Martin Perez, has so many people watching his progress and development. It’s a lot of pressure to put on a kid, but all indications so far show that he can handle it. Maybe we’ll get a chance to see him in 2012.
