Rangers Acquire Koji Uehara from Orioles for Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter

In an effort to strengthen their somewhat dysfunctional bullpen, the Rangers have embarked on a trade just prior to the MLB Trade Deadline.

Various sources have reported that the Texas Rangers have acquired 36-year-old setup man Koji Uehara from the Baltimore Orioles for first/third baseman Chris Davis and right-handed pitcher Tommy Hunter. The Rangers have provided the O’s two very young players in their mid-twenties with tons of potential for a much older setup man.

While Uehara has had a fantastic season posting an incredible 1.72 ERA over 47 innings with 62 strikeouts. However, the Rangers weren’t in the need of a setup man – they needed a closer. Uehara does have experience as a closer, though, having recorded 13 saves last year even though he was on the disabled list for two months. (more…)

Angels Halt Rangers Winning Streak with 9-8 Victory – Brief Recap

The Rangers started last night’s defeat off with a run in the first (Josh Hamilton scored on a double by Adrian Beltre), but thanks to Howie Kendrick and his single to right, Torii Hunter and Bobby Abreu both scored giving the Angels a 2-1 lead after the first inning.

David Murphy should be recognized for his efforts last night as he hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning – the only homer from a Ranger Wednesday.

If we could have just skipped over the sixth inning, the Rangers would have very likely won the game, but the momentum that the Angels had to get this game in their favor and keep it that way was just too much last night for the Rangers, who had their 12-game winning streak ended. (more…)

Rangers Come From Behind with Strong Performances from Harrison and Hamilton

Last night the Texas Rangers took on the Baltimore Orioles for the second of a three-game series. The Rangers won the first game with a ton of offense and yesterday’s game was a little different.

Going into the sixth inning the Rangers were down 2 to 0. With Josh Hamilton at third base, Nelson Cruz hits a single to left to pick up a run. In the seventh inning with two-out, Josh Hamilton came to bat with Elvis Andrus and Yorvit Torrealba on base. Josh hit a line drive to left scoring both runners, and from here Adrian Beltre picked up his 22^nd double on the season scoring Hamilton. The Rangers came from behind and never looked back, winning the game 4 to 2

Matt Harrison decided to be the dominating version last night; he went six innings only allowing two solo home-runs. He gave up 11 hits, which is generally not good. Fortunately he was able to pitch well when runners were on, holding Baltimore to 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Another good sign from Harry was that he had five strikeouts and no walks. Unfortunately this ended up as a no decision for Harrison. The team won, and he pitched well enough to help it happen. (more…)
