What happens with IKF?

Isiah Kiner-Falefa has utility man written all over him. Actually, he has practically already taken on that role. Manager Jeff Banister has found a way to get Kiner-Falefa in the lineup in four of the five games since Adrian Beltre returned. It’s safe to say he has earned his manager’s favor.

It will however be very difficult to squeeze him into lineups when Andrus returns. Kiner-Falefa will probably be the next man up anytime an infielder needs a day off and definitely on the days in which Beltre is the DH. The rookie could even slot into the outfield on occasion.

Carlos Tocci is currently the Texas Rangers’ pinch runner/extra outfielder. While he would be the guy you would pick to demote once Elvis is activated, that is unlikely to happen. A reliable pinch runner is important for every team to have off the bench. Plus, there is no reason to keep seven infielders on the active roster, especially one that can only play second base.

I am not the decision maker, nor am I a fortune teller. Management could keep Odor up and send Kiner-Falefa down. In fact, that wouldn’t be much of a surprise given’s Odor’s contract and the forfeit of one of his minor league options if he were to be demoted.

Regardless, that’s the way I see it, and I’m keeping a look out for what is best for the team now and down the road.
