Texas Rangers’ holiday gift 2: OF Joey Gallo

He might be the Gallo who stole Christmas, but rest assured, outfielder Joey Gallo could be quite the trade piece for another team to acquire this holiday season.

The six-foot-five slugger is coming off a down 2020 (if winning a Gold Glove can even be considered a “down” year), but isn’t far removed from back-to-back 40+ home run seasons and his first All-Star appearance in 2019.

The Rangers will soon have to ponder the idea of an extension for their homegrown talent, who becomes a free agent in 2023.

The all-around skillset of Gallo is evident, but will the team want to make him the centerpiece of their next contending squad, especially at the price he might very well command?

The answer to that question remains to be seen.

One thing is clear, though: Gallo would make quite the present under the tree or stocking stuffer for a team willing to take a chance on a bounce-back player.
