Twins vs. Rangers prediction and odds for Saturday, Sept. 2 (Texas has advantage vs. lefties)

Jordan Montgomery is looking to stay hot for the Rangers.

The Texas Rangers are a game back of the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros in the AL West division, a major drop off from when the team was leading the division earlier in August.

Texas needs to finish the 2023 season strong to earn a playoff berth, as the Toronto Blue Jays are also in the mix for a wild card spot behind them and Houston at the moment.

Saturday’s matchup with the Minnesota Twins brings us a battle of lefts, with Texas’ Jordan Montgomery toeing the rubber against Minnesota’s Dallas Keuchel.

Here’s how I’m betting on Saturday’s Twins-Rangers showdown:

Twins vs. Rangers prediction and pick

The Twins added Keuchel in the middle of this season, and outside of a terrible outing against the Philadelphia Phillies in his second start, he’s actually looked pretty solid for Minnesota.

His last outing came against the Rangers, and he was able to hold them scoreless through five innings in relief, scattering five hits. Now, he gets the ball as the starter.

While I’ve been impressed with Keuchel in his last two outings, I think Montgomery has the edge in this game.

The lefty – who was acquired by the Rangers at the trade deadline – has a 2.30 ERA and 2.65 FIP in five starts since coming to Texas.

Montgomery was unfortunate in his win/loss record during his time with the St. Louis Cardinals, but he should have a shot at one in this game. The Rangers are No. 3 in the league in OPS against left-handed pitching while the Twins are just 23rd in the same category.

I have to roll with Texas and Montgomery in this matchup given those numbers.
