Neftali Feliz Called up

The Texas Rangers have called up former all-star closer and former starting pitcher Neftali Feliz this afternoon. Neftali has been working in Round Rock to try and get his velocity back every since he had Tommy John Surgery. As bad a the Texas Rangers bull pen has been, I think it says something about Neftali Feliz that it took desperate measures for him to be called back up. Ben Rowen was sent down to make room for Neftali Feliz.

Feliz is 1-1 with a 3.14 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Express. Feliz just has not been the same since returning from surgery, and he has still not gotten his veloicity back to where it was when he was the Texas Rangers all-star closer in 2010. This move shows that the Texas Rangers understand how bad their bull pen has been, and they hope that Neftali Feliz can pitch anywhere close to the way he used to pitch when he was at the top of his game. It is a shame that he is not his old self, because this Texas Rangers team would be way better right now if Neftali could throw like that again.

All we can hope is that he will bring something to the table, something that will help the Texas Rangers somehow hold a lead when they do manage to get one. I tend to forget how young Neftali Feliz still is, and from what I am hearing part of his problem is that he has just not put in the work needed to get back to his premier level of pitching. The Texas Rangers need bull pen help, and they are hoping that Feliz is the answer. I hope they are right.
