The Rangers are less than a week away from opening the 2025 Major League Baseball season. Texas's roster went through a bit of shift this season but largely stays in tact, and while they underperformed with that roster in 2024 all signs are positively pointing toward a rebound.
There are a few former Rangers across the league that are looking for opportunities elsewhere. Let's check in on how a few of them are performing in camp this spring and figure out whether their teams are loving or regretting their signing.
2 former Rangers failing miserably in spring training, 2 who are dominating
Jose Trevino is failing miserably
It's been a rough spring for the Rangers' former backstop, who is now with the Cincinnati Reds after being traded to the Reds from the Yankees this winter. Then on Thursday, Trevino signed a three-year contract extension to stay in Cincinnati. In 33 at-bats, he is only hitting .152 with seven strikeouts and a lowly .434 OPS. Trevino will go into the 2025 season as the likely backup catcher to Tyler Stephenson this season.
Eli White is dominating
Talk about a throwback name, White made his MLB with Texas back in 2020 and played three season with the Rangers before being traded to Atlanta in December 2023. Still with the Braves, White is lighting up the offensive and defensive sides of the diamond with a .371 batting average and .950 OPS in 18 games. With that performance he's destined to be on the Opening Day roster and will provide some much needed boost off the bench.
Alright, enough is enough. Eli White needs to be on the opening day roster. Another great play by him, this time in left field. pic.twitter.com/Ac09rch0gP

Jeffrey Springs is failing miserably
I want to give Springs the benefit of the doubt after only pitching in three games last season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in 2023 but its been devastating with a 5.02 ERA and a .355 opponent average in 14 1/3 innings of work this spring. I still believe Springs will be a positive addition to the Athletics rotation, that's still not saying much since the A's rotation is pretty terrible.
Martin Perez is dominating
We are seeing flashes of 2022 Martin Perez on the South Side of Chicago (actually west side of Phoenix but who cares). Although he may be on perhaps one of the worst teans to play baseball in MLB history that isn't stopping him from putting on a clinic. In 16 innings this spring, Perez has a 2.25 ERA and 15 strikeouts that he hopes he can continue into the regular season and get him a mid-season trade to a playoff contender.
Martin Perez tosses 4 shutout innings and strikes out 5 allowing 2 hits and walking 1. Here he gets Trout on a change in the first. pic.twitter.com/Bb7B3Ij4fb
