2 Rangers players who have played themselves off the roster by May 1

Some players are slow starters, some players don't have the flexibility to start slow. These are 2 players off to a rough start that will cost them their career in Arlington.

There are glaring holes on the Rangers roster that are exaggerating a rough start even more than the offensive numbers show.

There are clear outliers on who is having a rough start and who is just not very good. It is who they have shown to be since the miraculous 2023 season.

While they have shown they can be MLB players at one point in their career, they might need to go be a MLB player somewhere else in a way that can benefit both sides.

Leody Taveras

This has been an ongoing problem since the 2024 season. Displaying athleticism and having a nice 2023 season can buy you one year of benefit of the doubt but this start has been too much.

Leody made it clear in 2023 that he is a more than capable big leaguer. There were stretches during that year where he was a rally starter that could wrap the lineup around to a dynamite top of the order. He also has been a good defensive player over the years despite the popular opinion among the fanbase, however this season that skillset has disappeared.

It is difficult to pinpoint one area where it has gone wrong for Taveras but it is clear that in there somewhere is a player that can benefit a team. He might be feeling pressure of losing his spot and pushing too hard but whatever the case may be, this level of play is not going to cut it.

Sporting an abysmal .472 OPS through 44 at-bats while already being on the roster bubble is hard enough to support. When you factor in the stronger part of his game not being there, there might not be a defense to keep him.

With Evan Carter trending recently towards more positive developments and Kevin Pillar performing as expected, I see no way Taveras should still be on roster by the beginning of May.

Ezequiel Duran

This one hurts and has more reasons than just his on-field performance to this point.

At one point, Duran was an incredibly productive in short notice playing hero ball in 2023 following a Corey Seager injury. He is clearly a MLB level player. There is still a lot of talent there but he remains hitless this season and it might be better for him to play somewhere not in Arlington.

I think inconsistent playing time has lead to a bulk of Duran's problems. There really isn't a spot for him on the roster in my opinion. Seager's injury two years was the last time he's gotten honest playing time which lead to a breakthrough first half of the season.

Injuries can lead to playing time in Arlington but with how Josh Smith is playing and the Burger-Pederson platoon at DH, Duran is consistently an odd man out.

While Taveras still has a starting spot and is getting opportunities to redeem his horrific start, Duran has not been provided a chance to do so. I think it would be better if by May 1, the two sides split up.
