2011 June Amateur Draft- Josh Osich LHP
Wednesday Keith Law from ESPN had his first mock draft together for the amateur draft. The 2011 MLB Amateur Draft will take place June 6-8 this year. The Texas Rangers first round pick is at number 33, and Law has the Rangers taking Josh Osich. Osich is a left handed pitcher from Oregon State. ESPN’s scouting report has him with a mid to low 90s fastball, who can touch 98. The lefty apparently blew out his elbow in last February and did not play in 2010.
He introduced a curveball against UCLA on April 30th of this year, and went on to throw a no-hitter. This was the fourth no hitter in Oregon State history.
Adding the curveball to an already solid arsenal of pitches was a good move. He has a good slider and the fastball should be good enough to power past hitters. It would be a bit of a gamble to add a player who has had Tommy John surgery. The Rangers have a deep farm system, and the risk versus reward factor presents a high reward with a low risk.
As we hear about other potential picks we will certainly keep you posted.
