On Wednesday night the Texas Rangers won the Silver Boot, and then promptly on Thursday they were shut out by Wandy Rodriguez. The loss leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of Rangers fans who were hoping for a series sweep against the Houston Astros.
Wandy went seven innings last night only allowing four hits and three walks. No Rangers were able to cross the plate in this one, the team finished the night 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
On the Rangers’ mound Matt Harrison picked up the start, he was successful early but crumbled as the night went on. Harry gave up five runs (all earned), seven hits, and two walks. Dave bush entered the game in relief and gave up another two runs.
The only bright spot in the game really was an Arthur Rhodes who was able to get his job done. Rhodes came in for the eighth inning and allowed a hit, but did not let a run cross the plate. The most successful offensive player was the returning Elvis Andrus. Andrus was two for three, and had two steals on the night.
Tonight the Rangers take on the Florida Marlins, another team struggling in the National League. Despite a record of 36 and 45, they have a new (older) manager and have the potential to be good in bursts. I look for the Rangers to win the series, but on paper they should walk away with a sweep.
