Texas Ranger Probables, April 23

The first road trip of the season is over and the Texas Rangers come home with the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Yet the start to tonight’s game is going to be bitter sweet. It will be the time when Ivan Rodriguez, Pudge, joins the ranks as former players as he announces his retirement. There will be laughs and cheers and probably more than a few misty eyes from the Rangers faithful. I have been trying to remember a retirement for a former Ranger player that is going to be this emotional since Nolan Ryan and I can’t come up with one that the entire fan base will be unified behind like this one.

For the game the Rangers will have another fan favorite on the mound, Derek Holland. In his 4th outing of the year Holland will look to improve on his 2-0 record with a 3.1 ERA. He is averaging just under 7 strikeouts and 2 walks per game. This ratio is fine and he just needs to maintain that. However the average of 4 runs per 7 innings is a bit much combined with his walks. Yet the southpaw looks to be fine against the New York Yankees as they come to Arlington. With Sunday afternoon’s win over the Detroit Tigers the Rangers are now 13-3. Tonight will be game 17.

The AAA Round Rock Express finally had their bats wake up against the New Orleans Zephyrs, giving the Express a much needed 10-0 win. That victory has moved the Express to 7-11 on the season. For tonight’s game against the Zephyrs the Express are giving the ball to RHP Greg Reynolds. Reynolds is 0-2 this season with a 3.79 ERA. His last outing was much superior to his first two starts. His 1:2 walks to strikeout ratio is at a good level. If the bats are awake again this game perhaps he will be able to chalk up his first win. Tonight’s matchup will be game 19 of the season.

In AA the Frisco RoughRiders are glad to put Corpus Christi behind them after Sunday night’s 5-3 loss. The loss against the Hook puts the ‘Riders at 9-7 so far. For tonight’s game at home Miguel De Los Santos will start on the mound. De Los Santos is 0-2 for the season with a 6.08 ERA. The LHP has been having control issues this year; in his 3 starts he hasn’t been able to pitch more than 5.0 innings. During those few innings pitched he has giving up 9 runs on 15 hits. Tonight’s game versus San Antonia will be game 17 for the ‘Riders,

The Advanced A Myrtle Beach Pelicans were rained out on Sunday and have yet to announce the make-up date. For the match up against the Frederick Keys the Pelicans will have Cody Buckel on the mound. Buckel is currently sporting a 1-0 record with a 0.60 ERA. The Pelicans are 8-7 for the year; tonight’s game will now be game 16 for the season.

The Class A Hickory Crawdads will be off tonight following their road trip to Savannah. The ‘Dads won in a rain shortened 5 inning affair on Sunday. With that win Hickory improves the season to 12-5. Christopher Grayson continues on his red-hot streak hitting .411 while Kellin Deglan has warmed up his bat jumping from .098 to .262 in a week. On Tuesday the ‘Dads will host a series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

Good luck today Rangers.
