Jason Frasor re-signs with the Rangers

John Blake of the Rangers announced today that the Texas Rangers have re-signed veteran reliever Jason Frasor today.  According to Todd Kaufman he signed for 1.75 million and includes incentives for the 2014 year.

Frasor has a great season with the Rangers with an ERA of 2.57 over 49 innings of work.  He recorded 48 K’s and 20 walks over those innings.   Frasor really helped the Rangers in the second half of the season.  During that period, he held batters to a 1.64 batting average, on base percent of .270 and only allowed 6 runs.  Frasor had his best month in August and helped the Rangers capture their franise best wins for the month.  In August he captured 3 wins with an ERA of 1.00 over 9 innings.

It still seems apparent that Joe Nathan will not be returning to the Rangers, locking up Frasor now and keeping him as a middle relief man will help the Rangers fill the closer role during the offseason.

The Rangers at this point will have the lefty Robbie Ross, Tanner Scheppers, Joakim Soria, Neal Cotts and Jason Frasor.

Also, having Frasor remaining as a solid reliever deep in the game, the Rangers may keep Alexi Ogando in the starting rotation.
