Now that day 3 is wrapped up, here is a brief view of what happened.

Earlier in the day, the Texas Rangers were reportedly interested in free agent Bartolo Colon.  Many reports said the Texas Rangers could sign him, but in the after noon the New York Mets signed him to a 2 year deal worth $2 million.

Joaquin Benoit is on the move, but not in Texas, likely he’ll end up in either Cleveland, San Diego, Seattle, Cubs or the Yankees.   Benoit fit in well for the Rangers, but pitching is not the Jon Daniels focus.

Texas Rangers were thinking about picking up outfielder Corey Hart, they could have used him and Moreland as a backup plan to losing Nelson Cruz.  Corey Hart was signed by the Seattle Mariners for a one year deal.

Also, non player news….MLB Rules Committee approves ban on home-plate collisions.

Reds brace for the departure of Shin-Soo Choo.  The Texas Rangers reportedly have offered him a 7 year deal worth, possibly worth around $130 million.  Zero confirmation on this though.  Rangers have said Choo is asking too much.  But the market has cooled on him with the recent Arizona Diamondbacks trade for Trumbo.  It wouldn’t be bad if the Texas Rangers and Jon Daniels did pick up Choo.  It would be a solid outfield with Alex Rios, Leonys Martin, and Shin-Soo Choo out there.

You could put Choo at lead off with Martin in the 9 hole.  Not saying Martin is bad, last year the 9 hole sometimes worked as the lead off.  Could be a great combo.  I’m for it, at the right price/years.

Overall, day 3 has been quiet.  Tomorrow is the final day and the rule 5 draft.  Remember to check back for more updates
