Some pitchers and catchers will start reporting to camp this week and shortly the Texas Rangers will also begin their spring training.  In this spring training preview, we’ll cover the Texas Rangers catchers and a few they have in their farm system.

Over the years, the Texas Rangers have utilized a wide variety of players behind the backstop since Ivan Rodriguez, who held that position from 1991-2002 and again in 2009.  Since then the Texas Rangers have used Gerald Laird, Rod Barajas, Mike Napoli, Yorvit Torrealba, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, A.J. Pierzynski, Bengie Molina, and Geovany Soto as their catcher.  Along with several other catchers throughout that span.  None of which have matched the tenure or talents of Ivan Rodriguez.

During the offseason, the Texas Rangers did settle on a couple of catchers for the 2014 season, and they do have a few quality catchers in their farm system.
