Texas Rangers top 5 home runs of 2013

Last year the Texas Rangers hit a total of 176 home runs.   Adrian Beltre lead the club with 30 home runs, followed by Nelson Cruz who hit 27.  Here are a few that I’ve picked out as the top 5 of 2013.  This should be a nice way to get ready for spring training.

Shortest Home run

Ian Kinsler, on August 23 against the Chicago White Sox, managed to get an inside the park home run, a ball that was measured at 197 ft.  The ball looped right over third base and rolled towards the left field line and got caught up under the padding against the wall.  Robin Ventura tried to argue the call, but the ball was in play the whole time and was never actually stuck in the padding.  It appeared Dayan Viciedo had a the ball at one point and should have held Ian Kinsler to a double, but Kinsler kept on running all the way home to give the Texas Rangers a 5-3 lead in the top of the third.

Longest Home run

Nelson Cruz hit a 450 ft home run last year on April,21 against the Seattle Mariners off of Aaron Harang in the bottom of the 4th.  Harang was down 2-0 in the count and with the bases loaded, gave Nelson Cruz a 90 MPH fastball that was smashed out of the park for a Grand Slam.  That swing of the bat gave the Texas Rangers a 8-2 lead.  It was his third home of the season, hit almost right up the middle.

Mitch Moreland squeaks one by

On August 13 against the Milwaukee Brewers, Mitch Moreland drives a bullet down the right field line that barely gets in for a home run. Moreland tied the game in the bottom of the third. Ball was hit hard and fast, and just over the fence right in the wedge. It thought this was a good one because it was fast, and one of the few that just land in that wedge.

Elvis has left the building

On August 10, at the Houston Astros, after 452 at-bats for 2013, (558 at-bats going back to his last home run in 2012), Elvis Andrus finally connects on one that leaves the yard.  It was only 363 feet, but it was a home run and his first of 2013.   Elvis hit three more for the season.

Some things come better in 3’s

After a 4 game losing streak, it looked like the Angels were about to add to that total, but Geovany Soto started a trend that would last 3 games.  On July 29, going in to the 9th inning tied 3-3, Soto hit a solo home run on a full count with 2 outs to win the game.

The next night, the story was looking the same.  The Texas Rangers were again facing the possibility of losing a game, but with the game tied in the bottom of the 10th 11-11 with 2 on base, Leonys Martin got enough of one to give the Rangers back-to-back walk-off wins.  Another great win against the Angels.

Finally to cap it off, Adrian Beltre was at the plate with a 1-1 game in the bottom of the 9th and hit a home run to sweep the Angels on back-to-back-to-back walk off home runs.  That was probably one of the best Texas Rangers moments all year.  You had three walk-offs, 2 come backs, and you beat the Angels.
