Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Tanner Scheppers didn’t pitch today due to back spasms. He is considered one of the three that are being considered for the closer role.

Of course with another pitcher with some discomfort, we have another knock on Wrigley the dog. At least it doesn’t appear things are serious with Scheppers. He’s currently listed as day-to-day.

I would expect him to pitch again in the next couple of days. I’m sure the Texas Rangers team doctors and staff and being carefully with all of their pitchers and are limiting them to ensure they don’t make any issue worse. Scheppers is one of the pitcher Ron Washington is looking at as a closer, but more than likely he’ll be a guy they count on deep in the game in the 7th or 8th inning to set things up for Neftali Feliz in the 9th.
Scheppers had an ERA of 1.88 with a record of 6-2 over 76 games/76.2 innings.
