The Texas Rangers re-signed catcher Chris Gimenez today.  The Rangers claimed him off waivers on March 28 from the Oakland Athletic, which was near the end of spring training.

Opening day: The Rangers kept him on the Opening day roster but designated him for assignment on April 1 and brought up RHP Daniel McCutchen from Round Rock at that time.  At that time, Gimenez could have been sent to Triple-A Round Rock, but opted out and instead became  a free agent.

Trade bait: An interesting thing now with Gimenez, the Athletics seem to be interested in him.  This could open up a chance for a trade.  Nothing official about a trade, but could open the door for some options.

Round Rock: Now, just about a week since Chris Gimenez cleared waivers and became a free agent he is back with the Texas Rangers.  Again, he has been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.   Gimenez joins catches Brett Nicholas and Chris Snyder.

Backup plan: With Geovany Soto still over a month from returning, the Rangers see Chris Gimenez as another reserve in case something happens to Robinson Chirinos or J.P. Arencibia.
