Robinson Chirinos was not even supposed to make this team out of spring training, it was supposed to be Geovany Soto and J.P. Arencibia. Well, Robinson Chirinos has not only made this team, but he is out hitting his competition 3 hits to 2. Oh, did I mention that he has three hits tonight and Arencibia has 2 hits all  season? And Robinson Chirinos also leads the Texas Rangers in home runs.

The Texas Rangers are struggling to score runs early in the season, but tonight they have had quite an offensive explosion, and Robinson Chirinos is right in the middle of all the scoring. Chirinos is 3-3 with a home run so far in tonights contest, and he looks very comfortable at the plate tonight. Of course he has looked comfortable behind the plate all season long. It has been an amazing contrast between Robinson Chirinos and JP Arencibia all season long so far.

So will Robinson Chirinos wind up leading the Texas Rangers in home runs by the end of the season? If he does, I think the Rangers would be in trouble. But for now, it is nice to have Chirinos behind the dish contributing both defensively and offensively. I hope that this is really the start of something for the catcher, and maybe the end of something for another catcher who is 2 for 21 at the plate.
