According to T.R. Sullivan of texasrangers.com, The Texas Rangers have acquired outfielder Dan Robertson from the San Diego Padres for “cash considerations”. According to Sullivan, the Texas Rangers were looking to add Robertson before Shin-Soo Choo went out with injury to add some speed to the bench when Jim Aducci went out earlier this week to injury.
“We view him as a winning type of offensive player,” assistant general manager Thad Levine said. “He’s a very patient hitter and a scrappy performer. He fits the way [Washington] wants the game played and what he demands from his players.” texasrangers.com
Robertson was playing for the El Paso Chihuahuas and I am sure he is excited to get this chance to come up to the Texas Rangers big league club and get a chance to contribute right away. The way that young players have contributed so far in 2014, I would not be surprised at all to see Dan Robertson win the American League player of the week next week. It seems that all of these young/journeyman type players that the Texas Rangers have on their roster are all coming through for the Texas Rangers, and I expect that Dan Robertson will be no exception. I expect him to contribute wherever the Texas Rangers put him in the lineup. Dan Robertson has had 22 at bats for the Chihuahuas and he has a line of .364/.391/.757 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. I expect to see him in the game on Friday against the Mariners. Lets all welcome the newest Texas Rangers outfielder to the organization!
