Texas Rangers are a Rallying Machine

ARLINGTON, Tex. – When the Texas Rangers start a rally they make sure to rally for a few days, not just an inning or two. The Texas Rangers were on a 5-game winning streak. They lost to the Seattle Mariners way back on Monday, April 14th (7-1) and on Sunday, April 20 (16-2) to the Chicago White Sox, I think maybe it was baseball karma due to how well the Texas Rangers played the previous Friday.
Something magical happened. It started on Tuesday night with Robbie Ross Jr. and has continued through Saturday’s win against the Chicago White Sox. Even though the Rangers lost, horribly, to the Chicago White Sox, there are still some highlights from Sunday’s game. Your Texas Rangers bounced back Monday night beating the Oakland Athletics 4-3. (YES!!!)
In case you’ve been busy or you just want to re-live the moments of the past 6 games like I do, I’ve put together the following for your enjoyment.
Tuesday, April 15, 2014: Texas Rangers defeat Seattle Mariners 5-0
PITCHING: Robbie Ross Jr. earned his first career win as a starter and did it in style. Robbie Ross Jr.’s final line: 7.2 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 2 K’s. After all that hard work Ross had the 7th-lowest ERA in A.L. at 1.00.
HITS AND PLAYS:
Prince Fielder hit his first home run in a Texas Rangers uniform and according to hittrackeronline.com, the true distance was 446 ft.
Kevin Kouzmanoff batted after Prince Fielder and hit a 430 ft. home run.
Kouzmanoff had 2 doubles with 3 RBI and 2 runs.
Elvis Andrus fields a ground ball off of Robinson Cano‘s bat, spins and throws to first for the out.
Mitch Moreland hits an RBI single to bring Kouzmanoff home for final run of the game.
Wednesday, April 16, 2014: Texas Rangers defeat Seattle Mariners 3-2
PITCHING: Yu Darvish again did what he does best, pitch wonderfully. Even with a bloody thumb this was his final line: 7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K’s with a 0.82 ERA. Darvish’s thumb became so bloody at one point that instead of tossing the ball back to Chirinos, he met the ump halfway to show him that it was ONLY blood! I was laughing over that one. Take a look.
HITS AND PLAYS:
This is the game where the “real” rallying began. The Texas Rangers are trailing the Mariners 2-1 bottom of 9th with two outs bases are empty. Kevin Kouzmanoff scores on a wild pitch that brings the game tied 2-2.
Leonys Martin hits a soft line drive bringing home Mitch Moreland for the walk-off single.
Thursday, April 17, 2014: Texas Rangers defeat Seattle Mariners 8-6
PITCHING: Tanner Scheppers started, but it took a team effort from the bullpen to get the job done. Scheppers pitched 2.1 innings allowing all 6 runs. Then the bullpen took over from there, Hector Noesi 2.0 IP, Pedro Figueroa 1.2 IP, Jason Frasor 1.0 IP, Alexi Ogando 1.0 IP and Joakim Soria 1.0 IP. Pedro Figueroa earned the win, while Joakim Soria earned the save. The combined pitching line was 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 BB, 2 HR, 5 K’S for a combined 3.88 ERA.
HITS AND PLAYS:
Kevin KOUUUZMANOFF doubles to plate Elvis Andrus to get on the board early.
Mitch Moreland gets a two-run hit.
Shin-Soo Choo hits a 412 ft. home run, his first as a Texas Ranger.
J.P. Arencibia gets his 2nd groundout RBI of the game.
Prince Fielder catches a liner hit right to him and throws to second for a double play.
Leonys Martin dives to make the catch and get Kyle Seager out.
I know many people have been harping on Mitch Moreland, myself include, but he has been doing better as of late. Here in the 3rd he softly hits down the LF foul line for his third double and plates Kevin Kouzmanoff.
Donnie Murphy scores the final run for the Texas Rangers on a wild pitch.
Friday, April 18, 2014: Texas Rangers shutout Chicago White Sox 12-0
PITCHING: It only took one pitcher for this game, Martin Perez. At the ripe old age of 23 Martin Perez pitched his first complete game shutout giving up only 3 hits. Impressive. WHIFF TIME:
HITS AND PLAYS:
The Texas Rangers scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning!
Leonys Martin hits a 375 ft line-drive homer to right field.
Robinson Chirinos hits a 384 ft. two-run home run to left field.
Saturday, April 19, 2014: Texas Rangers defeat Chicago White Sox 6-3
PITCHING
:
Colby Lewisearned his first win since July 2012. I think instead of calling him Cobra, we should start calling him Six Million Dollar Man (for those too young to remember, he had bionic implants and was AWESOME.)
HITS AND PLAYS:
Prince Fielder hit is second home run of the season that measured 393 ft.
Not to be outdone, Kevin Kouzmanoff (are you seeing a trend?) launched a 396 ft. homer.
Alex Rios runs to nab a fly ball from Alexei Ramirez.
And of course, it would be Rangers game without Leonys Martin running to warning track to make a catch and then slamming into the wall. Martin is really showing why he belongs in center field!
Sunday, April 20, 2014: Texas Rangers fall to Chicago White Sox 16-2 (OUCH!)
Although we lost, we did get two run and there are just a few highlights I want to share with y’all.
Shin-Soo Choo gets Rangers on the board with a sacrifice fly.
Elvis Andrus scores on a wild pitch to tie it up 2-2.
Finally, Luis Sardinas gets his first Major League hit. Congratulations!
Monday, April 21, 2014: Texas Rangers defeat Oakland Athletics 4-3
PITCHING:
This was a great game. I was there and let me tell you, A’s fans were not pleased. I was worried about Yu Darvish as the A’s seem to have his number, which usually frustrates Darvish. However, Darvish kept calm and his final line was 6.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 6 K’s. Joakim Soria strikes out Yoenis Cespedes to with the game and earns his 4th save of the season.
Darvish 6 Innings.
Soria gets the win.
HITS AND PLAYS:
Shin-Soo Choo homers in his first at-bat of the game.
Kevin Kouzmanoff gets a single to bring in Fielder, score 2-3 top of the 4th.
Prince Fielder gets RBI single top of the 5th to even the score 3-3.
Donnie Murphy drives in the go-ahead run in the 8th putting the Texas Rangers on top 4-3.
It was only fitting, to me, that Michael Choice made the catch for the final out. However, I couldn’t find a clip of that, so here is the one of him stealing 2nd despite pitchout.
The Texas Rangers also defeated the A’s last night (5-4) and finish the series today. Now you’re all caught up on how great your Rangers are playing. As of this moment they are only half a game back from the A’s. I know they can win it tonight! LETS GO RANGERS!!!
