O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done; The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won
You’ve read the Walt Whitman poem, haven’t you? Well, guess what I found out today… It’s NOT about Michael Young! Okay, I know, I know…I’m a little too big a Michael Young fan. I get it. I do. But, I have plenty of reason to be. In fact, the execs of the Texas Rangers agree with me…so much so that they will be honoring Michael Young in a pre-game ceremony at Globe Life Park on May 17th.
That Saturday the Texas Rangers will host the Toronto Blue Jays; with the first pitch being moved to 7:15, according to The Dallas Morning News. Our all-time captain will be honored on the field at 6:45PM. Honored for what, you ask? Hmm..let’s see…in Michael Young’s 12 seasons with your Texas Rangers, he became:
- The all-time Rangers hits leader with 2,230
- The all-time Rangers extra-base hits leader with 647
- A 7-time All-Star
- An AL Batting Champion (2005)
- A Gold Glove winning shortstop (2008)
- And an all-around good guy
I was sad when Young retired in January, but oh so happy that he did so as a Texas Ranger. I’m just as happy now that the club is taking an opportunity to honor Young, his career, and obviously his achievements as a fan favorite; pretty sure this blog post can be used as evidence.
I’ll see you guys at the ballpark on May 17th. What do you think, Mikey?
Did I mention he was a batting champion?
May 17th. Be there. Or be square.
